This fall, join Heather Smith as she looks into the art of effective coaching with the "Being an Effective Coach Series" aligned to the book, The Art of Coaching by Elena Aguilar.

This three part program features an online book study hosted in Google classroom during the fall. Credit is available (for an additional fee) from Kent State for attending all 3 sessions and participating in the book study.

Session 1:
The Foundations of Coaching

Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon

In this session, particpants will explore the foundations of coaching (what is coaching and what it is not) and how they can transform schools. We will define our coaching goals and create an action plan to obtain our goal(s). Chapters Intro-4, Match mini videos, Discovering who we are as coaches-beliefs and core values. Thrively Self Assessment. Goal setting- Set a goal to track during this class (methods and strategies used for teacher transformation).

Session 2:
Establishing Coaching with a Client

Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon

In this session we will reflect on our action plan. Look at any obstacles, whats working, and what are some challenges. We will also explore building coaching relationships and trust. We will look at developing a work plan. Participants will practice coaching conversations in role playing scenarios. We will compare Facilatative versus Directive coaching conversations and activities. Chapters 5-10, Match Mini videos, building relationships and developing trust, develop a work plan, Coaching Conversations (Jim Knight Videos), and facilitating Coaching Activities. Session 3:
The Coaching Dance and PD for Coaches

Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon

In this session we will focus on coaching conversations, questioning and listening, and professional development for coaches. We will also discuss our action plans and it's progress. What were the obstacles and what were the outcomes? Sharing success stories. We will also cover Mid and end of year reflections. Chapters 11-Conclusion, Plan for reflection mid and end of year, continuing PD for coaches, Did you meet your goals? Collection of evidence, reflection, next steps.
