Important DTV Information for Our WNEO (Greater Youngstown area) Viewers!

Western Reserve Public Media made the analog-to-digital TV conversion for its WNEO signal on Nov. 21, 2008. This primarily affects those who live in the Youngstown/western Pennsylvania area and in parts of Canton.

Western Reserve Public Media’s other transmitter, WEAO in Copley, which serves the greater Cleveland, Akron and Canton areas, will remain on air during the WNEO conversion. WEAO’s analog signal will turn off on the national June 12, 2009 analog-to-digital conversion date, and the WEAO digital signals will continue to air uninterrupted.

“We hope that our WNEO viewers will bear with us during this transition time,” said William O’Neil, Western Reserve Public Media station manager. “This was the closest date to the February 2009 deadline that we could schedule the engineering work needed for the conversion to digital. The end result will be a much improved signal.”

If you have any questions about this change, please call us at 1-800-554-4549.

Having Trouble Receiving Our Station? Perform a Channel Scan!

Because TV digital signal changes have begun to occur, it is a good idea to periodically re-scan for channels. This is particularly important right now for those who wish to access our WNEO signal.

Western Reserve PBS recently repositioned our WNEO digital antenna and discontinued the analog service, which affects viewers of our WNEO signal (generally residents of greater Youngstown, western Pennsylvania and parts of Portage and Stark counties).

Viewers who previously were unable to receive Channel 45 in digital should re-scan to find our digital signal. Some converter boxes scan for channels automatically; however, others require you to re-scan manually through the main menu.

The FCC offers the following helpful information about performing a channel scan:

  • Digital-to-analog converter boxes and digital televisions have a button, usually on the remote control, that is labeled "set-up" or "menu" or some similar term. Press that button to access the set-up menu. Using the directional arrow buttons on your remote, scroll to the option that allows you to perform a "channel scan." The channel scan will search for digital broadcast channels that are available in your area. Consult the owner's manual of your digital-to-analog converter box or digital television for detailed instructions on how to perform a channel scan for your device.

  • Once the channel scan is complete, you will be able to tune to the digital channels received by your antenna. You should perform a channel scan periodically to check whether additional digital channels have become available.
