Transfer
Definition:
To project positive or negative qualities
(praise or blame) of a person, entity, object or value to
another in order to make the second more acceptable or to
discredit it.
Examples:
A carpet cleaning company calls
itself Freedom Floors and always includes pictures of fully
uniformed soldiers at attention.
The FTD (Floral Transit Delivery)
Company uses an image of Mercury, the Roman god of swift
and reliable message delivery,
for its logo.
Mom’s apple pie, lemonade on hot summer
days, boys with homemade kites are shown with Dr. Sam’s
antibiotic bandages.
“I think we should make a star-spangled effort to beat this
team.”

Transfer is often a very visual persuasive
device. Find a phone book, flip through the yellow pages,
and find
as many
examples as you can in just five minutes.
