Career Connections: Getting Ready for Your Career 4 is directed at middle school and high school students who are considering life choices. One such choice revolves around what career to pursue. What steps will they follow to make this important decision?

Logistics: Shipping and Receiving

This job is to see that the flow of trucks into and out of a warehouse. It’s the logistics person’s job to communicate with the dispatchers who give the drivers their tasks for shipping. The logistics person also needs to know if there are issues on the roadway that will prevent access.

 
About the Video

Jordan Wyatt spends most of his time working in logistics scheduling for Sysco Cleveland, Inc. He sees 60 to 100 inbound trucks a day. His job is to accurately schedule the flow of trucks on the dock. He must prevent jams and back-ups by arranging the trucks based on size and location to where they‘re being stored in the warehouse.

The next step in this procedure is dealing with the many variables of time and the temperature of the contents of the truck. His job is to see that he is getting the food to Sysco customers, including many local restaurants. Their produces include all kinds of food and drinks like water, produce, chicken, canned or frozen foods.

The most challenging part of the job is coordinating everyone’s schedule. It requires good of communication skills.

A background in technology and management is essential.
