DTV Converter Boxes: A Step-by-Step Guide

For those who need to hook up a DTV converter box in order to access digital television, here is a step-by-step guide:

  1. Unplug your television prior to installation.

  2. Unplug your antenna coaxial wire from your “Antenna In” jack on the TV and plug it into the “Antenna In” jack on your converter box.

  3. Using the coaxial wire that comes with the converter box, plug one end into the “Antenna Out” jack on the converter box. Plug the other end into the “Antenna In” jack on the TV. Plug the power cords for the converter box and the TV into an electrical outlet.

  4. Turn on your TV and the converter box, and tune the TV to channel 3 or 4. Using the instructions and remote that came with the converter box, follow the onscreen set-up guide to scan for available DTV channels.

That’s it! Western Reserve Public Media’s digital signals are transmitting from the same location as our analog broadcasts. In most cases you should not have to change your antenna. However, in certain cases you may need to reposition your antenna or purchase a new antenna to receive a digital signal.

We offer high-definition channels 45.1/49.1 and standard-definition channels 45.2/49.2. For a complete list of stations broadcasting digitally in your area, visit antennaweb.org and enter in your address.
